The M40 is the first M-Series model to feature TrueCache® NVDIMM write caching — delivering fast, reliable, low-latency write performance that stores data before committing to the ZFS pool, with protection and mirroring for HA configurations. With 100 GbE optical networking and 4× 16 Gb Fibre Channel, the M40 handles intensive virtualization, media production, file sharing, and backup workloads at scale.

TrueCache® NVDIMM Technology

TrueCache® NVDIMM — Fast, Reliable, Low-Latency Write Caching

Found in the M40, M50, and M60, TrueCache® NVDIMM delivers fast, reliable, low-latency write caching. It stores data before writing to the ZFS pool, ensuring protection and mirroring for high availability. This persistent write cache survives power loss — eliminating the data-loss risk of standard DRAM-based write caches.

Performance & Scale Without Compromise

The TrueNAS M40 combines DRAM, TrueCache® NVDIMM, and NVMe/SSD with high-density disks for low-latency flash performance at disk capacity and cost, supporting up to 100 Gb/s network ports per controller.

Self-Healing Data Protection

Utilizing the OpenZFS file system, the M40 automatically detects and repairs in-flight data corruption before it reaches the disk, and identifies and scrubs bit rot and data decay.
